Why is isoprophyl alcohol used as a blank and not distilled water?

The best blanks are those that resemble the compound you want to yze structurally. If you used isopropyl alcohol as a blank instead of water it was probably because you were anlyzing something that was structurally similar to the alcohol. Water is used in most experiments because it is cost effective but the results may not be as accurate.
