How do I keep my dog from destroying his bedding?

My 3 year old German Shorthaired Pointer destroys every type of bedding we get him. He pulls the stuffing out of the cushiony, pillow-type bed and shreds any blankets, quilts, or towels we put in his crate. We even put a piece of carpet at the bottom of his crate and he destroyed that. I am so tired of cleaning up bed stuffing and shreds. I don't want him to not have some padding in his crate but I don't want to waste anymore money on bedding for him. Any suggestions?
